Lalie Betschart is an exceptional student-athlete from Olympia, Washington, and a standout volleyball player at Tumwater High School. She has committed to continue her academic and athletic journey at Boise State University, where she plans to pursue a degree in Nursing, combining her passion for helping others with her strong work ethic.
Lalie has built an impressive volleyball career highlighted by both individual excellence and team success. She has competed at the national level for five consecutive years, demonstrating elite skill, consistency, and dedication to the sport. At the high school level, she has been a key contributor to one of the most successful programs in her league.
Throughout her high school career, Lalie and her team consistently performed at a high level, earning multiple EVCO League Championships and finishing 5th in the state her senior year. Individually, she has earned numerous recognitions, including EVCO 1st Team honors (junior and senior years), 2nd Team All-State, and selections to The Chronicle All-Area Team. She also served as Team Captain her junior and senior years, reflecting her leadership and impact on her program.
Her list of accolades includes Team MVP, Defensive Player of the Year (twice), Best Teammate Award, Heart of the Team Award, and the prestigious State Sportsmanship Award. Her consistent excellence in the classroom was also recognized with multiple All-Academic Awards, and she graduated with Highest Honors (3.75–4.0 GPA). Beyond volleyball, she was honored with the 4TheLove “Shine Bright” Youth Volunteer Award, highlighting her commitment to giving back to her community.
Some of Lalie’s most cherished volleyball memories come from winning big matches and celebrating with her teammates, as well as the many travel experiences shared on the road to tournaments. For her, the bonds built through the game have been just as meaningful as the success on the court.
Lalie is inspired most by her mom, whom she describes as a kind and loving role model who has instilled in her the values of hard work, resilience, and compassion. She lives by the quote, “Be where your feet are at” by Micah McBride, and finds motivation in “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus, reflecting her focus on growth and perseverance.
Off the court, Lalie has a fun and unique talent—she can juggle—adding to her upbeat and well-rounded personality.
Looking toward the future, Lalie envisions herself working as a nurse while traveling, blending her love for adventure with her desire to make a positive impact in others’ lives.
To younger athletes, Lalie offers this advice: “Don’t take it for granted and don’t ever stop working hard.” She believes in making the most of every opportunity and giving full effort in every moment.
Lalie credits her success and journey to the unwavering support of her parents, who have always been there to encourage and support her every step of the way. She is grateful for coaches Bobby, Dan, and Ella for believing in and supporting her throughout her time at PSVBA.
